What Happened?

Madisson was only 23 years old when her life was brutally taken away from her on July 19, 2025 in a Calgary parkade.

She was gunned down by her ex-boyfriend, leaving her dead at the scene.

It can happen to you. Maddy was not in an abusive relationship until she broke up with him.

Maddy was a bright, compassionate, respectful, cheery, and accomplished young woman. She excelled academically, was a competitive swimmer and had just begun a promising career as a surgical eye assistant at Lasik MD. Her life was full of potential.

Following the break up of a relationship, Maddy experienced stalking and threats. Maddy followed every legal avenue to ensure her safety. A restraining order was granted on June 10, 2025, against her offender.

Her ex, who was known to have a firearm in his possession and also two criminal harassment charges against him for stalking her, was released with bail orders dated June 10th and June 17th.

The restraining order did not protect Maddy.

It was a piece of paper with meaningless words.

Maddy’s death was preventable.

When someone is facing abuse and intimidation to the point that a restraining order or emergency protective order is issued, it’s a life or death situation.

Offenders aren’t being monitored for staying accountable to the conditions of the restraining order, while the person experiencing abuse is put in charge of their own safety.

Everyone knew Maddy was in danger, but they couldn’t monitor the actions of her ex.

We can’t change what happened to Maddy, but we can stop future violence.

Judges already have the legal authority to do more to protect victims.

In cases where an offender is known to have firearms, judges can issue mandatory ankle monitors alongside restraining orders. Too often, this authority goes unused leaving victims exposed to preventable risk.

Maddy’s story shines a light on this gap. We need to mobilize the justice system to use the tools it already has to act earlier and more decisively.

How You Can Help

Our Mission is simple

Make monitoring mandatory for restraining orders granted to offenders with known firearms, history of violence, or criminal harassment charges.

Right now, restraining orders don’t actually protect victims of abuse. Ankle monitors are optional, issued solely at the discretion of a judge even in cases where there is a high risk of assault or homicide.

We need your help.

Together, we can save lives and break the cycle of violence.
